Free, Family-Friendly Oxnard Insect Festival Returns on June 4
Have you ever wanted to meet the bugs that creep around at night? Now's your chance! The City of Oxnard is hosting an event where community members can see, buy and even taste various types of them. Yikes! On arrival, all young visitors are encouraged to pick up an Insect Festival passport and have it stamped at each booth. The first 200 youth who visit eight different stations will receive a free special insect activity kit to carry home!
Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Plaza Park, 500 South C St., Oxnard
Tasty treats! Have you tried edible bugs? Sample foods such as garlic fried grasshoppers and chapulines quesadilla. There will be plenty of choices for all types of tasters this year at our festival.
You won't want to miss this! The Insect-themed Vendor Booths are coming back for another year. Learn about monarch butterflies and other bugs, or even take some home with you on Saturday. Keep your eyes peeled for art showcases and vendors, where you can buy everything from tarantula and monarch butterfly larvae to insect-themed art. Don't miss the opportunity to purchase amazing things like exotic plants that feed upon insects or insect exploring tools such as magnifying glasses and bug boxes.
There are so many exciting things going on at this event! Stop by the insect educational booths and try out some arts & crafts projects, or head right into the Kids' Zone, where you can make your critter costume. At 11 a.m., event sponsor ZooMed will host a hands-on presentation with live insects. The afternoon's events start at 12:30 p.m., where awards will be distributed for the kids' best insect or critter costume contest. There are four categories: ages 0-18 months; 18 months to 4 years; 5 to 10 years and 10 to 14 years.
There will be free live music starting at 11:30 am with Ernando, and the Nandos from his band, followed by a Beatles cover group called BeetleMania playing on stage from 2 pm. PAL's Alias Dance Fam will perform between band performances. Finally, make your way over to our Volkswagen car club, where they'll have some unique VW Bugs and Worms ready to enjoy while listening out to those great bands.
Don't miss this unique event. It is not only fun but also has a lot of educational aspects. Gather your loved ones and come to Plaza Park on Saturday, June 4. There will be an opportunity to Watch Oxnard's Council members, Fire and Police Chiefs, and other special guests experience tasting edible insects at the Special Panel of Tasting Edible Insects.
